Truth or Tradition prt 1

I have been around and in church all of my life. And I have discovered that church doesn’t change your life. As a matter of fact, I am convinced that what many of us have encountered in the church culture has not been what God intended His church to look like at this stage of her development. And because of this many have become greatly disappointed and have by choice turned away.

That leads me to my objective with this blog. I would like to slowly redefine the church from God’s view. Now I do not pretend to know it all nor do I believe that I have a corner on the market of truth. But, I believe that if I ask, I will receive. So I live my life asking and receiving from the Holy Spirit God’s purpose for His church and as I learn I will convey my thoughts to you. Some things I am already aware of from my years of leading a dynamic church family. There will be no rhyme or reason to the topics I may choose to discuss except what the Holy Spirit would lead me to say. So if you are ready here we go...

The first truth that I am more convinced of today than at any other time in my life is that the Bible is terribly underrated among God’s people. For some insane reason we (the church) do not understand that the Bible is God’s Word to us for our lives. This has been propagated by church leaders who do not teach the Word of God with clarity, but they stand on their soap boxes of tradition and regurgitate “left-over’s” to the masses that follow them. How can we expect the people of God to understand truth if their leaders don’t? How can we expect the church to handle the Word of God with care if their leaders don’t? Has tradition truly become more important than truth? I don’t really need an answer to that question unfortunately I know the answer because I have lived there.

What do we do about this epidemic? Thank you for asking (lol). We will pick this up in the next blog. Be encouraged I believe that things are turning around. Remember, God has always had a plan for turnaround. Now is no different. We are God’s people and we are called to live by faith and not by sight. It doesn’t matter what it looks like now, I stand on the promises of God.

Humbly,

Pastor Rob Jones
